          Check out Garrett Wade tools

          www.garrettwade.com

part 08c03.01 small Yankee style screwdriver
          made in Germany and expensive.

I thought Stanley made the original Yankee screwdriver?

I have an old one made in USA with a reddish colored handle.

No batteries check out their 9" special brace 47b01.01

Here is a cheaper one made in Taiwan ROC which is better than Red China

Stanley used to make them here in the USA and also over in the UK but it looks like they quit.

Good pictures and reading about them here

when i started, the journeyman ws using his yankee. until he was driving some robe hooks and slipped right through the bathroom door

actually we were using black and decker industrial cordless drills back at the end of 1979.

I have two, one made by Stanley and the other of unknown origin that came with two screwdriver bits and two drill bits for drilling pilot holes - all stored in the handle. The tool of choice now is the Bosch PS20-2 Pocket Driver. You can't beat it for installing electrical devices.

The two USA made ones that I know of were made by Stanley and Miller Falls. I don't know if either makes one now. I know that the first thing we would do on purchase is take the spring out. Too many "errors" when one accidently turned the catch and the screwdriver went shooting out.

i always wondered what those screwdrivers were called.

it would make a handy drill.

i have found that in my hands at least the batteries last as longer than even the new lithium ions out there!
