  • TS3660 Hercu-Lift assembly?

question for anyone that has assembled this saw. I'm finally getting some time to assemble my Ridgid TS3660. The instructions aren't too bad, but I've got a question about the Hercu-Lift assembly.

When attaching the Lower Section to the legs it says:
Place the lower section under the leg stand with the ends of the tube under the front leg brackets (on the floor model at HD, the tubes were placed ABOVE the leg brackets). Place a screw with washer (1/4-20 x 1 5/8) through the leg bracket and end of the tube of the lower section. Secure in place using lock nuts (1/4-20).

NOTE: The screw should freely pivot.
Below is a pic to see this section. My question is, how loose should this screw be?? In the photo, I haven't tightened it at all.

On the underside of that tube, the one that attaches to the leg bracket, is a larger hole than the top where the screw comes down from. The bottom hole is large enough that the nut could go right up inside the tube. Should it?

The square tube has a larger hole that should go UP. There should be a washer on the bottom with the nut so that the washer prevents the nut from going into the tube.

I tightened it as much as I could and still allow the range of movement needed.

Interesting thing is that if you get the universal HercULift, it tells you how much to tighten the nuts:

tighten them until the plastic in the lock nut is flush with the end of the bolt

The manual shows and states that the small hole should go up and no mention of the washer... but it does make more sense.

anyone else have these instructions over the 'small hole up' version?

This is how they're tightened in the photo... seems way too loose.

I actually only made mine hand tight.

They seem loose but the lift functions perfectly fine. As long as they dont fall off (the lock nut should stay put), I wouldnt worry about.
