  • which table saw should i keep

i recently got a new, factory shrink wrapped 3660 from the local HD at a really great price. i also own a ridgid 2412, which is a gray saw with a lifetime guarantee. which of the two saws should i keep?

these are the specs on the 3660:

this is the best info i can find on the 2412:

    http://www.ridgid.com/ASSETS/C67D3E5...le_Saw_Man.pdf

also, the 2412 has been outfitted with the following accessories:

    herc-u-lift (ac9920)

    http://www.m-and-d.com/pdfs/ridgid/AC99200.pdf

    rip fence system (ac1036)

dust collection ac (1098) (fifth row down)

my quandry arises from the fact that the components of the 2412 seem to be of a higher quality. the bolts, nuts and washers are steel, whereas the 3660's similar components seem to be made of lighter weight alloys. once the 3660 is LSA registered, both saws are effectively guaranteed for life. which would you keep? any input welcome.
there's a solution to every problem.....you just have to be willing to find it.

I would keep the one you've got, there don't seem to be tremendous advantages to either; an in box saw that is LSA eligible is probably worth more than the other.

I'd take the wings and the fence from the 3660 and put them on the 2412, then sell the 3660 with the fence and wings from the 2412... that'd give you solid cast iron wings with an updated fence that has 36" rip capacity on an American made Emerson saw that has a lifetime warranty....

Exactly. I have had both those saws and there is little to gain. The newer 4511 would be an improvement. The contractor design flaws and limitations have been addressed in hybrid designs, and of course true cab. saws. I personally would never buy another contractor saw.

How about sell both and buy a 4511?

If not, stick with what you have........you know it works, you've set it up to your liking, etc. Plus a new in box 3660 should get decent $$$ on CL or something......most likely more than you paid for it.

If I had had my 3660 for a longer period of time, I wouldnt have returned it for the 4511 upgrade.

Interesting aside: I returned an assembled and tested 3660 (I had bought it new) to upgrade to a 4511.....HD put it on the floor for $349 and it was gone in a day.

You made the right decision. The only major issue I have with the 4511 is the fence, that can easily be upgraded.

Re: which table saw should i keep

thanks to all for the comments. upon reflection, i'll probably keep both saws. my total out of pocket for the 2412, with all accessories and sales tax, was $300. and i got the new, in the box, factory shrink-wrapped 3660 for, are you ready, a net cost of $90. so i'll mothball the 2412 for family members' future use or sell it locally. the one thing i know for sure now is that, even though i wanted to like it, i do not want a 4511. sharp edges on granite chip easily and, as i always thought the 3612 was a great saw, the 3660 is as close as i can get to a 3612. again, thanks to all who shared their thoughts.

                    Oh my, 90.00!!! for a NIB 3660!!!????

I dont even think Harbor Fright has a saw that cheap!!!!

Nice job on that deal..........and for 90, I honestly would have kept it and thought about getting a 2410 as a portable, in place of the 2412. Then you have a shop AND a worksite saw.
