  • Can I use my old Rigid charger with my new lithium ion 18v batterys?

I have a 12v and a 18v drill with nicads, the batterys are shot, so I bought lithiums, can I use my old charger or do I have to buy the new charger that charges both? Thanks for your time in advance, John

This subject was thouroughly hashed a year or so ago. Probrand posted a statement to the effect that Ridgid engineers had stated the older chargers could be used to charge LI batts. We have a couple of the Rapid Max Twin chargers with the cooling fans. I tried charging LI batts on them a couple of times. The fans cycled on and off and the lights acted strange. I didn't like the sound and look of things and having read a number of articles about mishandled LI batts exploding I have stayed with the chargers built for LI batts since......Ray
PS....You can purchase new Ridgid LI chargers on eBay inexpensively.

Ray, thanks for the info, I'm going to try to buy 2, 12v lithiums and the proper charger as a package deal on ebay. That's where I found the 18v batteries, at the time they didn't have a combo of the three. Thanks again.
