  • Moli Energy not doing so well...

The beloved battery cell manufacturer for Milwaukee/Ridgid is going under...

E-One Moli Energy Corporation Cuts 220 Jobs
    03/27/2009
E-One Moli Energy Corporation gave pink slips to 220 employees on March 24, 2009 and halted production as demand for the lithium-ion batteries they produce has dropped by about 80%. There are now 85 employees left during a transition period of about three to six months, but eventually only 50 will remain. The 50 remaining employees at Moli Energy will focus on research and development to weather out the market. While the layoffs are permanent and the production will begin again when the economy recovers but it'll be quite a while. The employees who were laid off included about 15 managers and supervisors.

Before you get your panties all damp with excitement regarding anything possibly negative about Ridgid you might want to get all the accurate and correct information. See here http://www.bclocalnews.com/tri_city_.../42221932.html
The bottom line from that very extensive article is that E-One Moli Energy Corporation is giving their expensive and difficult to deal with Canadian workers the heave ho and moving the manufacturing to Taiwan where they have large numbers of much more maliable workers awaiting. This is confirmed by the following current press release regarding the building of a new plant in Taiwan which greatly expands their LI production capacity. It's important to note that the same article that discusses the closing of the Canadian Plant due to business losses states that E-One Moli Energy Corporation enjoyed a record year in sales.

Bottom line is you were sucked in by the story of just one more manufacturing company in North America being lost to the Pacific Rim and of course your glee that you could put another negative reference regarding Ridgid on their forum.....Ray

First I would like to thank you for your condescending reply. The report is about Moli Energy and not Ridgid. Ridgid will only see the consequences of this.
The fact is that their sales fell, and your 2nd link is an optimistic spin put on by their PR person on bad news.

Please point out where my article is inaccurate. They are moving to cheap labour and downsizing. Their sales fell 80%. Look up their stock on TSEC. A123 on the other hand signs new contracts and did not lay off anyone in North America and is building new US factories.

Expensive at $15-18 /hr? "Difficult to deal with"? Do you personally manage these people that you make such statements? They have families and e-one ditched them. I'm sure canadian contractors on this forum appreciate your comments, because you know, we are all difficult, lazy $200/hr incompetent losers.

They are keeping the office open and holding on to key Canadian scientists for research. Why not move that to Taiwan as well? All they are doing is going for cheap labour, which we already know reflects on quality.

This report is from their PR, and the "record sales" are peanuts compared to Konion/Sony or A123 sales.

of course your glee that you could put another negative reference regarding Ridgid on their forum.....
Because we should only post good news, right?

Let me remind you that moli's cells have 1/2 the cycle life of Sony, and 1/5 the cycle life of A123. They also have lower energy density than A123 at high discharge currents and they are less safe. Most hybrid buses use A123 cells. How can you compete with such products? Of course you will go under.
