    I think you'll like the new Makita, but you may find it geared up a bit too fast. I would personally go for the older model DA3000R but it doesn't have the nice LED light or as powerful a motor. Do you by any chance have a good D-handle drill with right angle head such as a Milwaukee 3107 kit? If you ever need to drill larger holes, that's what you need. If you have ever thought about buying such a tool, please do yourself a favor and take a look at the Makita DA4000LR which is similar but being newer in design has been refined more than the older Milwaukee. Both are good tools and if you can get a great deal on a Milwaukee 3107-6 just go for it. You won't be sorry.

    Here is the Makita and if you can find a good price, I would go for this over the Milwaukee. Some time back Porter-Cable made a super built version but they are history now.

    With either of the above you can power a 1-1/2" auger bit through a joist easy.
