  • Problem with 1/4 inch collet on R29302 Router

Just bought this router and it works great with 1/2 inch router bits but when I use it with the 1/4 inch collet for 1/4 bits I can never get it tight enough to use. Anyone else have this problem or do I have a defective collet? Like I said it works well the 1/2 inch bits so the chuck seems fine.

    Thank you for looking.

I'm not sure if this is your problem or not but when I first got my Freud router I had a problem with the collet also. The problem with mine was that the collet nut wasn't seated all the way onto the collet. What I did was brace the bottom of the against a piece of scrap and put downward pressure on the collet nut. I heard a distinctive click sound and the collet has worked fine ever since. As I said, I don't know if this is your problem but you might want to give it a try.
