Does it pop the thermal protector? I replaced mine (the tp) and now it runs fine. I think one of the capacitors is maybe bad though.

is the unloader working correctly, releasing the air pressure from the pump when it shuts off?

Mine does, I am almost certain one of my caps is not fully working, but I am trying to source them out somewhere for much less than the ridiculous amount ereplacement and Ridgid wants (over 20 bucks for just one). It's under warranty, but I like fixing my own tools if the parts are reasonable.

my guess would be to check out the electrical as well, but if the unloader is sticking it can cause much the same thing as the pump is loaded and the start up torque is not enough to get running,

you will normally see this on a restart when the Pressure switch kicks back in after air pressure lowers, after building up first, as many times a over night time period, will let it leak out, so it will start OK or you will find if you let the air out of it to near 0 psi, it will start and run OK,

didn't know ridgid had a true 5hp electric compressor. that's at least 25-30 amps at 240 volts if it's really a 5 hp. motor.

what size wiring and circuit is it on?

            rick.

I was thinking the same thing Rick as I read this.

No problem. The biggest scare was for Rick, as he thought
for a moment that there was a RIDGID tool he did not own.

Re: Ridgid 5 hp electric compressor

no worries bob, as i still have 5- 5.5hp. ridgid gas wheelbarrow compressors left of the 7 i bought.

that goes along with the 6 compressors i already own.

so i guess that makes me full of compressed air

                      rick.
