  • X4 Impact Driver Overheating

Recently purchased X4 Lithium Ion 5pc kit
While using the impact driver to screw down subfloor, it became extemely hot. I drove a few more screws and it began to smoke and lose power. Lifetime warranty so I will have it serviced, but I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar issue?

Where were your hand(s) on the tool? If you are covering the vents, the tool will overheat. If you bought the kit less than 90 days ago, return your impact to HD for a new one.
We don't have preventative maintenance around here, we have CRISIS MANAGEMENT!

A few weeks ago I had the same problem. I was using it to install 3" deck screws. I was charging and using up the batteries as fast as they were charged, so there was little down time. I was holding the driver by the handle, so no vents were covered. All of a sudden, the driver just stopped, and was very hot to the touch. Not knowing if this was normal or not, I just accepted it. I did stick it in the fridge to cool it down quicker.
