If you're in a large city, you might want to run a WTB (want to buy) ad under TOOLS in Craigslist. I've been able to pick up several DeWalt hard cases, and a couple of Ryobi soft cases that way. Another source that has worked for me has been pawn shops. If they have your saw in stock (with case) and it's been sitting around for a long time, they will often split up the set and sell you just the case.
And finally, check with the rental department at Home Depot. When rental tools are finally removed from use, and put out for sale, the cases often don't make the transition with the tools.
