I am in the market to purchase a drill press. Is the DP1550 a good piece of equipment? All of the units I have seen at HD appear to be missing parts or not assembled properly. Thanks for your input.

Walt---haven't heard of any problems with the 1550----looks like it has some good features. You can also broaden your search to a large benchtop that might save a few bucks. The thing to look for is how easy is it to set the depth stop, table height/angle, etc. Also, play around and try changing a belt position. My Jet is has so little play in the back pulley it's a bear to change speeds.

As far as I'm concerned, the number one thing to check on a drill press is arbor wobble. Many low quality models have play in the arbor bearings. Even if it is very slight, it will cause your bits to wander as they enter the work, escpecially in metal.
