I have an old sears (1978) 12" bandsaw, and the motor has to be replaced. The motor on it is a 1/2 hp. Can i replace it with a 3/4 hp? Will it cause any problems? Its only a $10.00 differance.

I could be wrong as electrical is not one of my strong suits but I think you should be alright as long as the ¾HP turns the same RPM's as the ½HP.

You need to look at RPMs and shaft size. Other than that, you'll be OK. Problem is that 12" saws typically don't need anything that big. If the motor was free, then it would be worth it, but I'm not sure I would pay extra on a 12" saw.
