  • How often do your use your biscuit joiner for your projects? Is it worth the money?

I am comtemplating in getting a porter cable 557K biscuit joiner. However, how useful is this tool really?

I want to get your opinion on how often do you really use this tool. I am guessing, not as often as your router or your table saw. Is it worth the money?

thanks in advance for your opinions.

Mine gets use when I am attaching face frames to the cabinet, or when trying to align boards during a glue up. It is also very handy when making legs for things like workbenches or carts. in those cases, a poket hole jig just won't do. When making face frames, a pocket hole jig is better unless the stock is narrow, in which case, the 557 with the FF cutter may be better. It does not get as much use as a router, TS, or even a sander, but it is a very worthwhile tool to have.

I use mine more than I thought I would. It works great for aligning pieces together. Although some would disagree, I built a corner cabinet using nothing but biscuits and glue and it's rock solid. If your strapped for cash, look at the Harbour Freight model. I bought it on sale for $40 or $45 and it works great, especially for occasional use.
