  • Where are the tools made?

Are all the power tools (Ridgid, Delta, Ryobi, Porter Cable and etc) made in China at the same factory? They all have the same similarities (design and materials). Also, I have noticed that all the castings on current tools are rough and seem unfinished. Is that a trend or what? Ron

Simply put, YEP. They are all coming out of China from a few factories over there. Add Dewalt and milwaukee to your list. Black and decker owns Dewalt and Porter cable. TTI which makes Ridgid and ryobi also owns Milwaukee as of jan 2005

The best of the bunch is etc, they're made in Canada!

Many of todays are made in China but certainly not all. There are manufacturing facilities in Taiwan, Mexico, Germany, Canada and of course the USA. Unfortunately not as many are made in America anymore.

Thanks gentlemen. After looking at the bandsaws (Delta and Ridgid? and drill presses (Delta and Ryobi), other than color schemes , they were basically the same. I finally settled on the Ridgid BS 1400 and Ryobi DP120. Between the rebates and and discounts (for military), I just couldn't pass them up. I am just a weekend woodworker, so hopefully they will last awhile.
Is the the rough finish on the cast parts normal? Thanks, Ron

Rough surface on non used surfaces of cast iron parts is normal. No reason to mill them smooth
