    Just a tip I discovered years ago, if you have a thickness planer,

    over cut the rails just a little over width, and after you get the bulk of them cut, take the batch of them stack them face to face and back to back so the edges are up and down, and take the batch to the thickness planer and run them through and then turn over and do the other edge, all of them are uniform in width with in a few thousands of an inch that way,

    and I usually then trim to length on either the miter saw or the radial arm saw,
