  • Difference between Bailey and regular #4 Smoothing planes

The Stanley website does not provide much of an explanation so I am hoping someone could clarify their smoothing planes.

What is the difference between the Stanley "Bailey" #4 Smoothing plane and the regular #4 Smoothing plane?

    Regards,

I believe it was the adjustable frog on bailey plane.
The frog can be moved back and forth to open or close the mouth.
This is advantageous for working both soft and hard woods.

Patrick Leach has some excellent tools at reasonable prices. I used to purchase from him when I still lived in Massachusetts.
Get on his monthly e-mail list, if you looking for some common and not so common hand tools. Be warned though, he 's a real yankee curmudgeon .
