  • 12 inch lathe faceplate

I have a Rigid Model WL 12000 12 inch lathe. I want to turn bowls and need a face plate. Rigid tells me they are no longer in production. There was a 4 inch faceplate (AC 8040)and a 6 inch one (AC8060). My spindle is 3/4 inch and I can't find a faceplate, or an adapter, to fit. Are there any old faceplates out there or a substitute?

    Mark

I did some checking around and most wood lathes use a 1 - 8 spindle. That's not going to help unless you can get an adaptor made up. A good machine shop could make one for you, but you'll hate the cost. You might look around on eBay, but then you never can be totally sure the seller knows all the exacts of what he/she is selling. I'll keep looking around. Maybe there is a mini size lathe still being made that has a 3/4 spindle. Do you know how many threads per inch your's is?

Please disregard the above. Me and my old brain didn't think straight. Sure there are the right ones out there. It's just finding them. Above, PapaDan came through.

The spindle is 3/4" 16threads per inch with #1 morse taper. Lathe capacity is 12" diameter, you would have no use at all for a faceplate larger than 6". I use mostly 3-4" faceplates for all bowl or frame turnings. Penn State as well as any place that sells lathes and acc. will have whatever you need. Mark, faceplates are very easy to make also. drop me a message and I will explain.

Dan is "the man" for sure. This link should take you Penn State Industries and where they list faceplates.

That is one interesting company. Thanks for posting about them. I need a few items myself that they have.

I have a Ridgid and a Jet lathes. If your in need of a chuck, get the Barracuda 2 from Penn state. Multi jaw set that is great.
