  • May I introduce to you....

I'd like to introduce the newest member of our family and the reason that my time in the shop will be extremely limited the next couple of weeks - my new hip. I just got out of the hospital after having a hip resurfacing surgery done on my left hip. I'm still pretty young, 31, so having a complete hip replacement was out of the question. I guess I'll be spending more time on the forum instead of in the shop. I look forward to picking up more great ideas from you guys.

Best wishes on your recovery. Resurfacing almost sounds like the county road crews laid some new macadam in ya' - LOL! Is the cap on the femural head a polymer? Any other particulars about it that you want to share?

        Get well soon,

I put it all back together better than before. There\'s lots of leftover parts.

Thanks for all of your thoughts. I find the whole procedure and technology fascinating, probably because I have a personal connection to it. Here's a link to the site of the company whose implant I have:

            Pretty amazing stuff.

Was the hip resurfacing surgery due to arthritis or an injury of some sort?

Be well and god's speed on your recovery!

Thanks for all the well wishes. Davet, the hip was arthritic. Combine that with abuse from my football days and it made for a bad combo. It's been a little over a week since my surgery and I can walk around without crutches. I'm hoping to get in the shop this afternoon.

So what's the warranty period on a hip replacement?
Does it cover parts AND labor?

                              rnt80, and David,
Hope you guys are doing well, the day before David got home(10/01/07), I'd just brought home my new ACL. I'm just now beginning to get back in the shop, but I can't stand for that long. The knee does fine, it's my back that can't take the peg leg walk for more than an hour or so. I've got really bad cabin fever these days. I can't wait to get back to work, much less get back into woodworking. I did get a new planer in though and got to play with some test pieces to calibrate it.

                              Get well guys,
                              Ern
