    Re: Sub $500 Jointers

Most people who have a 6" jointer will tell you they wish they had an 8" - me included. Yet, I don't consider the experience I've gained using the Ridgid 6" a waste of time or money. It takes while to really learn how to best use a jointer, as well as develop your technique. I'd hate to have waited for a few more years saving for an 8".

My friend, if you're looking at dropping round about $500.00 for a 6" Jointer, you will be forever kicking yourself in the butt if you don't come up with just a few dollars more & get the Griz GO586 8" Jointer with 2 Horse Power motor now on sale for $595.00

However, if you're dead set on $500.00 as your maximum budget & are determined to buy a 6" Jointer, I'd take a long hard look at the Griz GO452 6" closed stand Jointer with built in mobility for $325.00

Check the classifieds on Craigs List & you'll see it littered with used 6" Jointers.

Now check that same source 8" Jointers & you'll have a much harder time finding any.

There's a reason for that. Most people who initially bought themselves a 6" Jointer & stayed with their woodworking, ended up unloading their 6" Jointer to upgrade to an 8" Jointer.

Lastly an 8" Jointer will hold it's value better if you ever have to sell it. Not so much a 6" Jointer.

      My .02 FWIW.

Very true if you're not within driving distance of one of their warehouses.

I have the Craftsman/Orion and have never had an issue with it. I haven't used the other brands so won't comment on them. The CM is available at times for less than $300, on sale and with the CM Club discount. best I remember mine was around $260 and tax.
