I live just down the road in Manassas, and yes I have a 2424, and no I would not recommend a benchtop saw either. Don't know if you are aware of this, but there is a Woodcraft with a woodworkers club in Springfield. Sounds like you are a little apprehensive about outlaying the cash for a lot of tools to get into woodworking. Maybe you should consider a few month membership there. That way you can make sure that you like woodworking, and you can get a better feel for what tools you need, or want. than you can go from there.

Just a thought

Thanks RRitch,
I really plan on taking some classes there before I buy anything. That said, I made myself go in there one day just to drool a little. Not really the tool cost - its the infrastructure around the tool. I'm one to either do it right or not do it at all. Hopefully, I'll also get some more tips at the woodworking show in a couple of weeks.
