  • a big planer problem

I was using a 13" planer and i know tried to take to much on dull knives and smoke blew out the motor housing and now it won't go on. Do I have to replace the motor or just brushes?

    Re: a big planer problem

I hate it when that happens. Most motors are gone when you let the smoke out of them!. I would pull the brushes to check, as well as blow all the dust out of the inside. If you see melted insulation on the winding wires, its probably toast. If the brushes are melted, clean the armature off good and try new ones, or take it to an electrical shop so they can test the continuity of the windings.
