What are you going to do with it? Scroll work, resaw, etc? Big saw, little saw?
As for brands, I have had good luck with Lennox and Timberwolf. If you have a small saw or a 14" with riser, the Timberwolf may be best as it is thinner than most, so requires less tension, which most smaller saws can't deliver properly for thicker blades of maximum depth .
Rule of thumb: 2 to 3 teeth in the wood based on thickness of the wood.. For resaw over 6", use a 2 or 3 tpi blade of maximum depth (i.e 1/2", 3/4, 1") that you saw can properly tension.
2nd rule of thumb: More teeth means smoother cut. However, more teeth limits gullet depth so the blade may not be able to drag out the cut wood, causing heat buildup (causing blade to warp and dull prematurely) and slower cutting.
For a 14" saw, a 6tpi x 3/8 blade will be a good general purpose all around use blade. For resaw up it to at least a 1/2" blade.
