  • Kreg Collar depth setting

    Hi all,

I was using my Kreg jig the other night for joining 1.5" stock. I noticed that the collar depth setting on the drill for 1-3/8" depth is greater than 1-1/2". See table below. This does not seem correct to me. Curious as to the reason why? Thanks bob

    Depth collar distance from
    shoulder of drill bit
    5/8” 3-7/16”
    3/4” 3-9/16”
    7/8” 3-11/16”
    1” 3-7/8”
    1-1/8” 4-3/16”
    1-1/4” 4-1/8”
    1-3/8” 4-5/16”
    1-1/2” 4-1/8”

    Re: Kreg Collar depth setting

    Hello Bob_M

The collar distance in the chart is correct. The recommended screw length is the key.

For 1 1/4" thick wood, the collar is set to 4 1/8 and screw length is 2"

For 1 3/8" thick wood, the collar is set to 4 5/16 and screw length is 2"

For 1 1/2" thick wood, the collar is set to 4 1/8 and screw length is 2 1/2". The decreased length of the guide setting insures that the longer screw will hit on a higher shoulder on the drilled piece and not poke through the adjoining piece.

I just bought a Kreg Jig day before yesterday and thought the same thing until I noticed the recommended screw length. The length guide on my carrying case agrees with the chart.

      Bill,

Good for you, I did not even think of that.

      Thanks
