  • Sacrificial fence for dado

I am making my first sacrificial fence for my new dado set. I am using what was intended to be a shelf made of MDF with a laminate on both sides. I have cut the MDF to size but I want to know what is the best way to cut out for the dado. Is it safe to raise the dado up into the fence. I am using a Freud SD206.

That is how I would do it. Make the cut as shallow as possible, 1/8" is lots

I agree with wbrooks. I would be sure the fence is locked in position then turn the saw on and slowly raise the blade.

That's how i did mine. Just make sure the edge of the dado is under the sacrificial fence and not under the stock fence. Raise it slowly.

That's pretty much how you have to do it, slowly raise the blade into the sacrificial fence 1/8" higher than your final height to give a little clearance between the blade and the fence.
