Hi everyone , here is my latest Extreme Birdhouse . It is made from 100 year old reclaimed barn wood .This house is 5 ft wide , 7 ft tall and has a built in bird bath in the roof ..
The railings are all made from 1/4" steel .

A few weeks ago i got a call from Birds and Blooms magazine and they are going to do a two page article on my birdhouses . It will be in the Dec / Jan issue . I am very excited .

John, I've said it before but I have no problem saying it again, your birdhouses are fantastic. Extreme is the word to use to describe them alright. You have done some excellent work on the birdhouses and the other projects you have shown us here.

I am glad to hear you are going to get some recognition for your work.

Another masterpiece! What kind of metal are you using for the roofs? Do you purchase it already formed or do you do that yourself?

Thanks for posting the beginning process. Very cool. A condo with an outdoor pool on the roof! Those birds are in high cotton for sure!
I put it all back together better than before. There\'s lots of leftover parts.

Thank you everyone for all the very nice comments , they are all greatly appreciated .

I use regular barn steel on the roofs . I mainly use wall steel because it has a lower profile and it is much cleaner looking on the seams and easier to caulk . I buy the sheets in 14' lengths by 36" wide . Then i use steel cutting blades for my 7 1/4" skill saw to cut all the steel for the roof . It only takes about 20 min - 30 to cut them all . There is also 3/8" plywood under the steel to help everything stay square and strong .

My next birdhouse whatever that is i will take a lot more progress pics and then i will post them . Thanks again everyone .

John, I did a Google search for barn steel and got nothing. What is barn steel? BTW, I sent for the Cape Cod plans several months ago but I haven't hat a chance to start building it yet. Looks like it will be a fun project to make.

Another great Birdhouse. I love to look at them.

Two questions: What is the most frustrating part of building the birdhouses?

And two: In a post where you pictured your TV watching/storage building I think I recall you mentioning you might be able to make plans available. Did you have the chance to draw up any plans? If so can you tell me how I can get a copy and the price?

                            Thanks,
                            Tom

Now a days when they build barns around here they build them out of mainly steel and wood post , called pole barns .I am using the steel from that . This link may help .

This is the name i got from my steel . http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&rl...+steel&spell=1

I have even had to ship some down to a guy in Wisconsin for his cape cod . I,m not sure if yous have the same thing .
