  • Need A New Power Sander.....

currently have a Ryobi 4 inch by 36 inch belt with a 6 inch disc on the side. The Ryobi is going to pot.....bearings are on the way out. I think it was made in China.....gee what crap!!! NAFTA sure has messed us up, don't you think??

Have talked with others about Rigid....they say that Rigid is good and has very good warranties, is this true.....need to know before I purchase another......the first one was a Delta, and it didn't last a year, when the switch went south....very discouraging to buy stuff that doesn't last. thankx

I have the Ridgid Oscilating Spindle/Belt sander and I love it. It gets a good amount of use in sanding mitered joints to final size as well as in profile sanding. I use it hooked up to my shop vac (also a Ridgid). The key with the Ridgid sander is to vacuum out the sawdust every so often. A lot accumulates in the bottom around the spindle arm, but it's easy enough to remove the sanding drum or belt unit and vacuum out the stuff every week or so. I highly recommend it.
I put it all back together better than before. There\'s lots of leftover parts.

If you want a stationary machine type with 4 x 36 belt and 10" disc you might look at a Kalamazoo Industries model DS10-4S but be warned this is not a cheap one. It's quality and USA made. They also have the DS10-2M which is a 2 x 48 belt and 10" disc sander.

My Craftsman 6X9 belt/disc sander works well except for the dust collection bag which doesn't work worth a hoot. Shop vac is necessary for dust collection.

I believe that Lowes has the Hitachi SBSB10 for around $150. I've had one for almost a year now and it's as good if not better than any other belt/disc sander in it's price range. The dust collection isn't bad either.

I checked out the Ridgid site and find that they do not have a 4 x36 inch belt sander with a six inch disc on the side......so I guess I'll have to look else where, or maybe I'll elect to pay the extra money and get better one from Delta or ???, I don't know yet......I'm a wood carver and can not use a random orbiter, or oscilating spindle sander. But thanks for your replies.

Dunno if you specifically want a 4x36 sander, but here's an option if you can find one. I'm not sure but think it might've been discontinued:

I have the big brother of this one, and I love it. Rikon has a good track record, and for the price the features are top notch.

                Here's the big brother:

(it can be found cheaper if you search around, but that was the best description....)

You might try looking in your yellow pages for woodworking machinery dealers in your area and take a look at what they have.
