  • osage orange name log

Hi, I recently made a name log from a freshly cut osage orange 10 in dia log about 8 feet long. After flatening the center of the log, I routed the background around the letters leaving them stand out 1 inch. My question is what can I put on the log to prevent the bark from seperating from the wood when it dries? How long must I wait to do this? The name and flat face are an orange color now. Is there any coating that I can use to preserve this color? I know hedge turns a dark redish brown as it ages. Thanks,

First of all I do not know if any of this processes will do what you want to do, but I know most bark falling off is from shrinkage, and and a green wood plank will more likely warp and crack if not stabilized or properly dryed,

as to color it would probably be dependant on not letting UV light get to it, I do not know how one would stabilize the color,
