  • No risers for Bandsaw 1400???

I just read on another post about a guy who tried ordering riser from Home Depot and they told him they were back ordered and no longer available starting 1/1/04. He said it's already too late to get them. Wanted to pass this info along as it may help people evaluate new tool purchases.

Brandman, any official response on this? Many people bought this bandsaw during the 20% sale and are now looking for a riser kit. These have been backordered for several months now and many people have been frustrated trying to find one. Is it true that Ridgid and discontinued this item? If so, what other items are being discontinued?

I ordered the riser kit for my 1400 back at the end of October and am still waiting for it. I was told by HD that it is still on backorder and the date has been pushed out until the end of January. They are supposed to be calling today to get an updated status.

You guys may wnt to take measurements of the bolt patterns and head to HF or Woodcraft. I've heard of people using riser blocks on saws of varying brands. the common theme with many of the 14" saws is that they are all imports made by the same foundry. ie. main casting is same, but motor may be different. I believe the Ridgid may be close to the Delta 14"

If anyone wants it I can get you the exact measurements off of mine. I don't know the size of it but was just looking in a new Grizzly catalog and they have one for their 14" that looks identical to the Ridgid. I will get the dem. from mine and post them here tommorow. Dan

OK here is a link to a page I put on my web site. http://www.hoistman.com/HoistMan/RiserBlock.html I included a picture of my riser set and the one in the Grizzly catalog. They are Identical.

Thank you papadan. That was a lot of work on your part and I for one really appreciate it.

I've been looking at a lot of band saws lately. I received a Woodcraft catalog today, 1/2 off the Jet Riser. Initally, it looks to work on the Ridgid. They are all 6" rise, it's the alignment pegs and holes that will differ I'm guessing. At $35 I'm leaning towards ordering one to see if it works on the Ridgid. If it does, it beats the $70 price tag on the Ridgid. If and when it comes off back order.

Color matching of coarse will be an issue. But a properly milled and shimless riser of any color is welcome at this point.

                  Woody,

If you go that route, please advise on whether it works. I too have the Ridgid riser on eternal backorder. Luckily, we got in at the $70 price. It is currently quoted at over $110 when you call in for parts. Not sure if it can still be ordered thru ordertree.com at the lower price or not.

                  Thanks,
                  Kevin

GEESH !!! $110.00 for the Ridgid Riser Kit? That's rediculous. I paid full price for the one on my origanal saw which was 59.95 off the shelf at HD. I read posts here that some HD's were offing them on a clearance table for $20!. I read on another forum that someone purchased all they had, and for shipping charge the guy was selling them for no profit. Of coarse, time I found the thread, the last post was that they all had been purchased.

There is no way I would pay 110 bucks for the riser kit, that is just price gouging. I'm sure there is a riser kit of a different brand out there that will fit the Ridgid. I've seen photo's on other's personal web sites that have different colored blocks on the saws. None were Ridgid's though. But I'm thinking they are all pretty much the same. (Xing fingers anyways)

Woody, I tried the Jet rised on my BS14002 and the pins did not line up (I bought it from Woodcraft). You can try on yours as Woodcraft is very good about returns. The good thing is that all of the other parts did fit.

Kbrandon, ordertree is still handeling the riser blocks. I actually received a call from them last week because I had canceled my order in December asking if I would like to reorder. Apparantly, they are off of quality hold, but ordertree has a minimum buy quantity. I just checked and ordertree has them listed at $59.97 plus shipping.
Can someone help me install this blade!!!!!!

                        Roverdisco,

I already have one on order (eternal backorder actually) with ordertree. Hopefully, I'm not too far down the list to receive one.

                        Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. I was going to order one last night, then read the fine print. The 50% off on band saw accessories at woodcraft is IF you buy a band saw. No discount unless you buy the saw. So I did not order it.

I got my kit in the summer of 2002. It was more than just the block. It came with a longer (plastic) blade guard for the left side and a longer blade guard support for the right side (the arm with the blade guides and bearings) and a longer blade. I paid something like $69.00 for it. Point being, if you order one from jet or some other company, you should make sure the other pieces also fit. If it is just the block you are getting, you will not be able to properly lower the blade guard support to cut anything less than 6" in height.

                            Hope this helps.

I got my riser at HD when I baught my saw. They gave it to me for $39. This was last June. If the alignment pins are the only problem they can be relocated. I posted a link above to the specs and showing a Grizzly set that looks the same as my Ridgid. Dan
