  • R4511 - Finished Upgrades

I just finished some upgrades to my very first table saw. I had already put on the low profile riving knife which I had a friend cut for me on their CNC router. I just finished putting laminate on an extention table & fold-down outfeed table and I installed everything last night. The only thing I have left to do is install some fold up adjustable legs for the outfeed table. The legs on it now are just temporary. I got the plans for the fold-down outfeed table from "Saws-N-Dust" website. I also installed a Shop Fox 52" Fence system that I picked up from Grizzly.
I do these shop projects to learn on (make mistakes) before I try doing real projects!

    UPDATE:
I just finished installing the fold-up adjustable legs. They lock in the up or down position. I picked up the hardware from Rockler.

Very nicely done. You've created yourself a very sweet setup there.

Very nice! Now you just need to add a router insert to the nice big extension wing. How do you like the new fence?

Very nice setup! Looks like it came from the factory like that.

You just gave me some nice ideas.

Boy, I sure wish I had the space (and skill) for a setup like that.

              Hey Sprocketeer,

Can you list what you made the top out of?

              Thanks,

That is a bad @$$ setup! You hot-roded your R4511. I like the black theme with the upgrade.

Can you share the details of the riving knife (i.e. thickness)? I dislike the OEM one so it is off of my R4511.

                  blboyd,

The top is just some 23/32" ply from the "BORG" for about $23. 1 4X8 sheet did the entire out-feed system. After I built the frame (just glue & screws-no fancy joinery) I just topped it with some Wilsonart laminate and used door hinges and a 36" piece of 2" angle to support it from the cabinet.

                            Re: R4511 - Finished Upgrades

that is a beautifully executed collection of enhancements that will not only add to the saw's functionallity, but looks great in the process. was there any way to mount the fixed extension table that did not necessitate drilling holes in the saw cabinet (maybe bob d can chime in here as i copied his outfeed table mounting technique and it worked very well)? i don't have a 4511 but with the drop in prices, i've been considering it. and i've never been able to make those cuts that you made for the fixed outfeed table supports. how did you make those cuts so accurately?

thanks for the info. and again, that is a really sweet set of modifications that should add to the enjoyment of your saw.
there's a solution to every problem.....you just have to be willing to find it.

                              Sprocketeer,

Your upgrades look killer. Nice work.

What kind of issues did you run into mounting the new fence?

Did you have to drill and tap new holes in the rail to match the ones in the granite?
