  • Confused About Router Plate Sizes

I was under the impression that standard router plates sizes were 9x12 and 9-1/4 x 11-3/4.

I had bought a 9 x 12 plate for a table I was going to build but was having second thoughts and instead thinking of using the 9-1/4 x 11-3/4 in case I wanted to upgrade to a lift or something later on.

But I was looking at some of the tables for sale, specifically on the Rockler site and theirs is listed as 8-1/4 x 11-3/4. Even the BenchDog lists theirs as that same size.

So what size exactly should my plate opening be?

if you are planning on buying a Router Table, you should buy the router base plate at the same time. Not only do the router plates vary in dimension, but some are designed to accept certain router brands without any modifications.
