  • Modifying an old Craftsman 15 1/2 " floor drill press

I have been looking for a drill press for quite while.
After buying and returning an HF, this morning I bout a used 15 1/2 floor model Craftsman drill press.
I do not yet have the DP but already I am thinking about modifying it.
The press (according the the seller ) is only a 5 speeds.
I would like 12 to 15 speed especially to have the lower speed.
The main difference between 5 and 12 speed is mostly the presence or the absence of an intermediary idler pulley, right?.
Did any one of you already add one of this on a DP where is was absent to start with?
I do not see any major difficulty doing this if I can find the idler pulley as a spare part.
Does any one have a different opinion?
    Thank you.
    Bert
