I have a question about the dust collection system? I bought the dust collector but it doesn't work very good. Does the #38 "plate dust chute" need to be removed when using the dust collection system? Any help will be appreciated.

No, that plate stays in place, and you simply tighten the attachment with the 3 red knobs. If you are using a shop-vac with the 2 1/2" connection you'll be lucky to get 50% of the chips. The shop-vac and 2 1/2" size hose cannot keep up with the planer output.

I've now got mine connected directly to one of the two 4" inputs on my DC via a 10' hose. Collects everything that the planer puts out.

Incidentally, I thought that the dust chute together with the Her-cu-lift were included in the base price of $379. They were with mine.
