    Brett,

What type of unbiased opinion do you hope to get on the Ridgid forum?

I faced this question six months ago. I bought the Makita.

I like them both but if I were buying today, I'd pick the Makita.

I know you didn't ask about a Hitachi but I bought the new C12LSH from LOWES (sorry)But I have never been impressed with a saw. its a 12in sliding miter saw that doesn't need any rear clearance it has a digital miter and bevel gauge with a laser guide. it has only been on the market since sept and it has the highest reviews. Just my 2 cents but something to think about.

My opinion is SIZE matters!! Go for 12" I love mine and wouldn't trade it. I have found very little I can't cut. I milled my own base boards out of 3/4 MDF and the 12" blade cut every angle over of the 4" high base.
Measure twice...Cut once..I always forget that one!

I bought a Ridgid 10" and now wish I had gone to the 12". Too many limitations on the 10 if you are going to do a lot of finishing work. I'll probably trade up next year.
If your gonna fix it...do it right

You need to go to DeWalt and watch the DW718 video.

Up until last week I had a 10" DeWalt, replaced it with a Ridgid 12" Slide, wow. Its like night and day. The finest aspect for me apart from size capacity was the mitre accuracy, as you know DW have knotches, well these are not perfect, this is painfull. By comparison the Ridgid, set up well (stops) and the fact is my mitres this week are better than ever. Wish I bought the Ridgid to start with. HD refunded the difference yesterday as it was 599 reduced to 569, but now its 499, feeling great. they also refunded the diferrence on the combo set I bought last week (70), enough to get me a new shop vac, 16 gall Ridgid of course.

one of my concerns was with the size of the rigid; it looks like it would be a monster to move around
