  • Question on 4511 motor cover

I have really lousy dust collection on the 4511. I noticed the plastic motor cover on the RS of the saw has a large "hole" in the top. Is this for air flow or can I cover it up to get better dust collection? Haven't measured but the hole must be a rectangular 6" X 8" opening.

When the blade is set to cut at 45° the motor protrudes thru that opening. The way I see it, if you cover up all openings, the dust collector will create a vacuum but that does not promote dust extraction. You need air to enter the cabinet to carry the dust out thru the dust port

Duh, never thought of that. Thanks, that's why I asked first.

True, you need air intake for proper dust collection, but there are more than sufficient air spaces below the table and the front angle gauge. I am considering closing up some of the openings once i have a dust collector setup again.
