  • Jointers w/ short beds: opinion needed

I know that the old gray model ridgid jointer has 40" of total bed length. For those who have worked w/ this jointer before, have you run into lots of setup time to accommodate longer work pieces? How long before you upgraded to a jointer w/ a longer bed.

I am guessing that the 40" bed length is a bit of a limitation, but wanted to get real life feedback from you all.

    Thanks

I do 70" boards on mine with no problems. Anything longer than that is pushing it IMO.

I've got the ridgid and the only time i run into an issue is if i do a bed for someone I usually make the rails out of 6/4 stock and its heavy. otherwise no prob. yes i'd like an "aircraft carrier"jointer but time and money say no.bill

My old gray model has 46" of bed length and I’ll be the first to admit that I find 8-foot boards to be a challenge on it.
