  • Spur Auger Bits vs Ship Auger Bit

I need a good drill bit that I can rely on to drill through studs etc.

Anyone ever use these before and recommendations’?

I use these for larger holes and they do great. What size holes are we talking about? I prefer the regular spade bits if not going into nails. I tried lenox bits for nails and they worked great.

Forgot: whatever you do, don't buy the ridgid auger from HD, they blow big time.

I own the Milwaukee Spur & many different ship auger. (Lenox & Irwin)

They both have done fine for me. I can't really tell a "winner" between the two yet as I have not owned the Spur type (more cutters at the end) for long. But they don't seem to cut dramatically better. Time will tell.

A kit of them was on sale at HD for around thirty bucks last I checked.

        Good Luck.

The thing I was impressed with the lenox bit http://www.lenoxsaw.com/enUS/Product...ILITY_BIT.html was how well it did against nails. I tried it at the trade show and it was going through nails with ease. It either cut them or pushed them out the way.

Pretty good video and demonstration. I don't know what he's talking about when saying the tip wears out the quickest though. Haven't seen that.
