    Very true about wood expanding and contracting some. There is no need to be measuring to 1/1000th inch. It will never hold. For most woodworking I've done 1/32 inch is good enough. Using the same rule or tape should be fine.

      Years ago my shop teacher instructed us to never trust the rule on a table saw and to always measure from the blade to the fence. Good advice that has always worked for me.....
