  • Molding head Question

Do I need a zero Clearance Insert for the molding head?

My TS2424 came with a 7" dado insert, which was ment for the shaper head. I've used the shaper head a couple times, and it worked fine for what I did with the 7" insert.

I got the 8" insert. I was just wondering if the zero Clearance Insert would help me get a cleaner cut?

I would have to say yes to an extent.

First time I used it, I had horific chatter. I clamped feather boards to the fence, but it still bounced some. I then clamped a piece of scrap wood to the fence for a solid hold down on the stock. That really helped the chipping, but didn't get rid of it 100%.

        Hope this helps Andy.

The solid hold down works. The reason I'm asking is that I have to run 3/8" think stock though.
