    Could be a persimmon they have a dark heart wood like the one in the picture.

        Charlie: From the color of the heart wood, light sap wood, and the furrowed bark it appears to be Black Walnut.

            not like any east coast cedar I have ever seen, maybe something down south.

            But this looks like walnut to me.

                It looks like black walnut. Did the wood get darker after you cut it? If it did, black walnut.

                  I certainly hope you have more of those trees if its black walnut. Full grown black walnut trees can fetch up to 5000 thousand dollars for lumber.
