  • Ruff sawn pine door

I have been building a small outbuilding for a customer for the past couple of weeks. At this point I have to build three doors and finish some trim and the project will be complete. Today in the shop I built the first door. The job has been done with rough sawn pine that is a full 1" thick by 12" wide that I purchased directly from a local mill.

This is the first door that I built today. It is now stained and is drying over night.

    Before

The entire door was built with my preferred fasteners, counter-sunk square drive gold screws and finish screws.

    After

I really enjoy working with rough sawn lumber and to me it is more fun then actual work. The door is 32" X 80". I will post another photo tomorrow when the red cedar stain has dried.

Hi Bob, the door is all butt joints and fastened from the back through a sheet of 3/8" plywood. The 45 degree corners are also fastened through the edges with countersunk 2 1/2" screws where needed. As you already know rough sawn lumber takes a few extra fasteners to get joints as tight as possible.

BTW sir, all of the best to your son and family. God bless.

        Ready to hang.

Edit to add: My shop dogs refer to projects like this as "Ruff" sawn, thus the thread title
