  • protective top coat on painted projects

Do you ever put any type of protective top coat on painted projects? I occasionally build a small project that is painted a solid color (white) and then my wife will paint some decorative trim or artwork on it to dress it up. I've wondered if I should put some type of protective coat on top of the finished project. Any suggestions?

Depending on the type of paint used, you may be able to apply a clear laquer paint to seal the artwork. I would check with your paint supplier to see if what you're using is compatable.

I have used clear polyurethane over painted items I use in the shop & it works well on a work surface that I slide benchtop tools on & off of.
Use safety devices or you may not need gloves.
