  • DP1550 Metal drilling ability

I am considering purchasing a drill press. I currently own Ridgid's TS2424 and I am satisfied with it. My question is this, how well does the DP1550 drill through ferrous and non-ferrous metals? I know some "woodworking" drill presses are not well suited for drilling metal. If anyone has any direct experience, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Steve

The RIDGID drill press will have no problem drilling up to 5/8" holes in mild steel. Anything beyond that and it will not go slow enought. Also don't expect to be able to just power through it. Drilling a large hole in steel takes time.

also i find it helps to drill a pilot hole first start w/ a small bit then work up to the size you need its easier on the drill and on the bits cutting oil helps aswell to lubricate the bit
