  • Advice for making doors?

Thinking of making my own interior doors. Any advice from someone who has made their own? Recommendations for router bits? What would be the min recommended HP of the router? Plans available?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Advice for making doors?

I make cabinet doors, and by interior doors I guessing you mean walk through doors,

I would think that one would need a full size shaper to safely do it or a 2 hp router and a very good router table, I have the smaller floor shaper that grizzly makes, and the top even with the optional wing are minimal IMO,

and I use my shaper as little as possible, as I made a horizontal shaper, https://www.ridgidforum.com/forum/t43251/

and unless one is doing some thing on this design http://idostuff.co.uk/blogs/2010/how-to-make-a-door/

MLSC says 1 1/2 and freud say larger a unit, fitting rail and stiles door http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shops...ryr&s80911.pdf using bits like this,

when you get that size of cutter spinning you want some protection and good guards, shapers run some slower for the larger cutters, especially the raised panel cutters

Unless your planning on using bits different that I am envisioning I would not try a hand held unit,

a lot would depend on how one goes about making the door and the process one wants to use, one could rout out the edges and use a dado head on a saw to cut the groove, use a reverse cutter and cut the ends of the stiles

    http://www.rockler.com/tech/RTD10000539AA.pdf

most of the interior doors I have pulled apart have been doweled, with about 3/4" dowels the tendons I thin would be superior, but again what kind of cutter set, one has.

    hope this helps you some

Are we talking raised panel? Cope and stick? Solid? Trying to match existing trim?
Just need some more info to help you.
