Yes there are LOTS of plans out there free to good home. In addition, many times Ebay will have cd roms listed with hundreds of plans very inexpensively. Of course the woodworking magazines are a great place to look. Many of their sites have access to some free plans even if you don't have a subscription. I believe it is popular woodworking or wood magazine that usually does an outdoor furnature special mag every year.

On another complete note, there are some great woodworking magazines out there, one can not subscribe to them all. The FIRST one I would suggest is one called shopnotes. You can find out info at www.shopnotes.com

They deal primarily with workshop tips, jigs, etc, but also do offer a lot of "problem solving" sections.

If you want to buy, rockler carries plans. I will assume so does woodcraft. New Yankee Workshop, old norm makes you buy his plans, i believe david marks woodworks plans are available for free at diy.com.

But as recommended first do a google search, you will be very very surprised at what you will find. In addition, many here if you have a specific project in mind, will point you in the direction of one of the "best" plans for your particular project.

      Good Luck!

The internet is a wonderful thing, how did we ever live without it??

Just Google Free Woodworking Plans. You will find thousands of them to choose from. Watch out for Ebay. There are reports that those CDs just contain links to the free plans sites. One of my regular plan sites has a warning posted that what you get is a hand written note with his web site listed. LOL

Came across this site with a bunch of mostly old Popular Mechanics projects.

"When we build let us think we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work that our descendants will thank us for, and let us think, as we lay stone upon stone, that a time is to come when these stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, "See! This our fathers did for us."

Ya... there are a lot of good plans on e-bay... but watch out for this "deal":

                    http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQ...nQ5ftheQ5frain

Says theres over 6,750 woodplans on it. Actually only 609. Most of very low quality and minimum detail. However... if you leave him negative feedback after purchase he will offer to refund and or/ bribe you to remove the negative. He offered me up a couple of other CDs. I told him no. I just asked him to stop false advertising. He stated the 6,750 number was an accident that he would have his web designer fix. It's been months.

Found that he was actually stealing plans off the net, not giving credit and removing the designers names. Contacted a couple of them. They contacted him. Then he lied to them and told him he would stop selling the CD. Pretty dishonest fella. CD has some popup advertisements and annoying music.

One of the free plans sites that I go to has an announcement about an ebayer. The seller advertises thousands of plans for 99cents and $5 shipping charge. He mails the buyer a print out of the free plan sites URLs.
