  • looking for some tips/direction

got my hands on a free pool table over the weekend. it is an older table the rails and slate still in great condition but the table frame itself has seen some better days. i am wanting to rebuild it (the wood) and then have the slate professionally recovered and so forth. looking for some ideas as to what wood to use. i was thinking of using oak or walnut on the exterior with 3/4" plywood for the inside surfaces? also anyone know of a site that has pool table plans? would like to get some ideas. any tips from anyone that has built a pool table before?

Go to Google.com and do a search on: "pool table build".

There are several resources that may interest you.

    Best regards,

Use quartersawn wood so there won't be much movement. if the bale is that old, you'll want to replace the bumpers as well as the pockets and felt. be sure to get teh slate smoothed before putting teh felt down. some places get cheap on this.
