  • Ridgid Oscillating Belt Sander

Has anyone ever noticed that the belt moves in the wrong direction? It moves from right to left, but if you're right handed, it would be easier to maneuver the stock with the belt moving from left to right. (all floor model edge sanders move from left to right) I didn't realize this until I bought it. It's a well functioning sander but it would be a huge improvement if the belt moved in the opposite direction. I'm a bit curious why it was designed this way.

It might have something to do with it being a dual function sander. Remember you can make into a spindle sander.

Take it apart and invert the motor, then it will be spinning in the opposite direction. :-)

Maybe the person who designed it was left-handed.

In which case welcome to my world and that's a little piece of payback.

Now you know how a left-handed person feels when they have to use a right-handed tool or just about any other item ever made. Try a pair of left-handed scissors if you want some real frustration and a sense of what lefty's go through every day.

But after a while you learn to do it the wrong way (right-handed), and it's not so bad. It's actually easier for us to adjust to your backwards (to us) world because we have to do it all the time. Most lefty's are partially ambidextrous because of this.
