  • MDF preservative?

I’m going to be making a new top for my workbench tomorrow. It’s going to be two layers of .75” MDF and the top and sides will be covered in countertop laminate. What should I use on the bottom to protect it incase water or something else gets on it? Or should I even to worry about it?

I assume the MDF is going to suck up as much product as I can throw on it, so hopefully you guys can recommend something effective, but inexpensive!!

As long as it is the bottom and will never be seen, why not just paint it?

I used polyurethane when I made my drill press table out of MDF. It really doesn't make a whole lot of difference what you use as long as it seals the MDF.
