see if the hose is blocked, take off the hose and see if you have suction at the tank.
clean the filter,
clean filter and check for blockages, If one picked up a (say a nail or stick) it can lodge in the hose and then some thing else can lodge on it paper towels will do a great job if there is some lodged in the hose,
most likely if it was slow it is the filter, if it was instant or reasonable fast is possibly a blockage,
sometimes things can get stuck at the tank fitting as well, don't know what type of tank fitting you have but if you can reverse the hose if blocked some time you can suck the blockage out that way or hook up so it will blow it out,
