  • RCA interconnect Cable Test

OK I hooked up the MicroExplorer RCA interconnect cable to my Toolbox monitor and was playing with my "Screen Writer" Video character generator along with my old B&W SeeSnake. Sorry did not move the camera around but once I get all things wired up the way I want I will take some pictures of the set up and share here.

OK here is how I got it wired for now. The CRT for my Toolbox monitor is long gone, but the power supply and the video in and out work fine. I will post pictures of my final assembly soon.

ron, talk about sticky keys, i think yours are more like stinky keys

i've heard about ridden hard and put away wet

i see you too are old, old school. got ridgid blue

i was thinking of converting my color video brief case to a sony dvd burner. but your system looks much simpler. the screen writer is a nice add on too. maybe i'll get some time to strip out my video case and tinker with the sony unit.

I bought mine the first year they came out with that model. The year before was a 3 1/2" camera head with duel push cables one was a solid fiberglass rod as the other ran the wires both molded together. I want to track down one of them and acquire it.

I went to the manufacture's website of the screen writer. Sadly they no longer make the unit. http://www.simaproducts.com/products...product_id=565 It is a nice option back then for under a 100 bucks. Mine is a first generation unit with 5 standard pages and 2 zoom pages. Their latest one had 12 standard pages with 3 zoom pages. There is a little bit of a learning curve with it but is very nice to be able to put text on a video.

I did an Ebay search and found one of the late models. http://cgi.ebay.com/SIMA-SCREENWRITE...item53de268eb5 but there is no power cord but can be easily gotten.

It always made me wonder why I never seen Ridgid or the other lateral only camera systems offer some sort of character generator. I know the MicroExplorer has one to put text on still shots. But a full sized keyboard option that maybe plugs into the expansion slot that lets us do text the videos and video editing would be worth its weight in gold.

Thats a poor picture since it was just a quickly tossed together system. There is only two wires .. well three one from the camera to the power source, the video out to the screen writer and the wire from the MicroExplorer to the screen writer. As my post says this was a test to see what I can and can not do with what I have here.

Also if you take a close look at the screen writer as Plumber Rick said it was put away hard and wet. Cannot do that with a laptop unless you get a toughbook for the job which costs upwards over 2k.

Here is a picture of me using the built in wires of the tool box monitor to power the screen writer and supply it the video input, so the only additional wire now is the wire from the MicroExplorer

BTW folks... the Explorer has a screenwriter built in. As long as you have upgraded your firmware to 2.30.

Its not as fast as a keyboard but it works fine for putting text up.

Josh, I was wondering does the screen writer work on live video? Or even saved Video? I thought it only worked on still pictures. Thank you for the heads up
