  • Me again! Another problem I found.

Let me say I am posting this incase someone else in the future has this problem as it drove me crazy!

I noticed the other day that on my desktop I had this little little square object, it was red inside with a white X in the middle, if I right clicked it to find out it's properties and what program it was from nothing happened, it could not be deleted as my computer didn't think it was there, it could not be moved or anything. And this was not just on the desktop it was on every screen in the top left corner. It was in every game I played, every folder I opened, email you name it! It was driving me crazy! I googled it and found very few pages even related to this, I thought wow leave it to me to be one of the very few to get this problem. Anyway on one page someone said it was a porn site virus running a program in the background, so I thought hey lets find a program that is running in the background and end the madness! Well it turned out it was Seesnake Update exec. Closed the program that I was not even running or had run since reboot and bam little square was gone! So if anybody running Seesnake HQ gets a little square on the screen this is the answer. But there is no square on my laptop just on my home PC.

So the little square was from SeeSnake HQ. There is an updater that runs but I have no idea why it would put a square up there.

Explain again the tie to a porn site?? or is that just a symptom you searched for on the web that matched up.

If it was an x in your tray at the bottom of the screen it may have just been that the updater service failed.

I didn't take from his post that it was porn site related. I took from it that someone told him that it could be a porn site program running in the background.

So he looked for programs running and found the SeeSnake software. Then shut it down.

Yes what JC said lol. It also was not in the tray area but was near the top left corner of the screen. I have not solved this I just know how to get rid of it by killing the seesnake update exec. After any reboot.

Specs they might want are vista sp1 patch, 64 bit system. I have not tried removing the software and doing a fresh install yet. Nvidia graphics driver.

              Hey Cuda,

              This is strange behavior indeed.

I'm having our engineers take a look at it. I'll let you know what we come across.

              Cheers,
              Eric

Thats so funny, I have the same thing, no matter how many updates I do, it is there, cant move it, cant touch it, cant click on it.

I will try to see if closing HQ in the startup will remove it. it is sometimes red, it is sometimes clear!

I mentioned this to eric about 2 months ago when I have having issues with the unit not burning a dvd.

Glad someone else has this x, my wife cannot figure it out at all.

Josh, if you want me to text you a picture of it, call me tomorrow and I will.

I'll definitely point this one out to the engineers again. Sounds like a weird symptom.

I have it as well but had not associated it with anything yet.

3 is way more than a coincidence ;-) Will make sure this gets figured out in next release.

                            Thanks,
